Obverse description Central shield bearing a nine-fold coat of arms with a two-fold inner escutcheon combining the arms of Bremen and Lübeck, the whole surmounted by three ornate helmets with crests. The armorial composition is rendered in the elaborate heraldic style characteristic of late sixteenth-century German episcopal coinage. A Latin legend surrounds the design along the outer border, identifying the issuer as Johann Adolf, elected Bishop of Lübeck and administrator of Naumburg.
