Obverse description Armored and draped bust of Duke Charles III facing right, bearded, wearing a ruffled collar and articulated armor, the effigy rendered in high relief within a recessed inner circle. The peripheral legend runs clockwise around the bust, separated from the inner circle by a beaded border. The portrait is executed in the Renaissance court style characteristic of the Nancy mint during the second half of the sixteenth century.
