Obverse description Central field displays the United East India Company bale mark, a interlaced monogram device incorporating the letters V.E.I.C. (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie / United East India Company), with the date of issue inscribed in the exergue below. The design is contained within a toothed or dentilated border, characteristic of Soho Mint production of the period.

Reverse description Central device depicts a pair of balanced scales, symbolising justice and equitable trade, suspended between the pans of which appears a Persian legend. The entire composition is enclosed within a raised toothed border. The scales motif was a deliberate expression of the Company's commercial and judicial authority in the Bombay Presidency.
