| Obverse description | The obverse displays the elaborate papal coat of arms of Clement XI at centre, depicting a shield charged with the Albani family device — a stylised hillock or mountain — set within an ornate baroque cartouche of acanthus scrollwork and foliate mantling. Surmounting the shield are the crossed keys of Saint Peter and the papal tiara, rendered with fine engraved detail. Small star-shaped ornaments punctuate the field on either side of the achievement. The circular legend CLEMENS XI P M ANN VIII runs around the periphery, separated by small star stops, all within a toothed or milled border. |
