Obverse description The heraldic shield of arms of the Borough of Shrewsbury occupies the central field, displaying the three traditional leopard heads arranged in chevron formation. The date 1793 appears in the upper exergue above the shield, while the legend SHREWSBURY HALFPENNY encircles the design. The shield is rendered in a bold, slightly relief style characteristic of late 18th-century provincial token dies.

Reverse description A large woolpack, depicted as a tightly bound rectangular bale of wool, is centered in the field with one corner prominently pointing downward toward the letter U in the surrounding legend. The inscription SALOP WOOLLEN MANUFACTORY encircles the woolpack in a continuous legend around the periphery. The design is plain and utilitarian, typical of trade and merchant tokens of the Conder period, identifying the issuing commercial establishment.
