| Obverse description | Central field displays an heraldic coat of arms flanked by two rampant horses serving as supporters, the shield featuring a central device within a bordered cartouche. A mantled helm with crest surmounts the shield, rendered in bold relief. A ribbon or scroll bearing a motto legend appears below the central arms, with the date 1846 prominently inscribed at the base of the design. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border running the full circumference of the coin. |

| Reverse description | Central device depicts a woolpack — a bale of wool surmounted by a flagpole with a pennant — rendered in fine granular relief, a traditional mercantile symbol associated with the wool and dry goods trade. The legend RUTHERFORD BROS. arcs across the upper field, with HARBOUR GRACE and NEWFOUNDLAND inscribed in the lower field, separated by small rosette or asterisk ornaments. The entire design is contained within a beaded border. The composition reflects the commercial token tradition of mid-nineteenth century British colonial North America. |
