| Reverse description | A long cross pattée extends to the coin's edge, dividing the reverse field into four quadrants, each of which contains a trefoil arrangement of three pellets. The cross arms, terminating in splayed pattée ends, are bold and well-defined despite the irregular flan characteristic of hammered production. A Latin legend in Gothic lettering is distributed across the four quadrants of the outer margin, reading the mint city of London. The design follows the standard type employed for English medieval silver halfpence throughout the late Plantagenet and early Lancastrian periods. |
