Obverse description The obverse depicts a four-horse mail coach in full gallop to the right, with the coachman seated on the box and a guard standing at the rear, rendered in high relief against a plain field. The coach door bears a crowned cipher. A horizontal ground line divides the field, with the upper arc legend reading MAIL COACH HALFPENNY and the lower field containing a three-line inscription TO TRADE EXPEDITION & TO PROPERTY PROTECTION. The peripheral legend continues along the lower rim: PAYABLE IN LONDON, terminating with a pellet stop. The entire design is contained within a finely milled border.
