Reverse description The reverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line inscription in bold raised serif lettering reading PAYABLE / AT / J.W. MEARS / COLLAR & / HARNESS / MAKER / NEW ZEALAND, arranged concentrically across the central field. The peripheral legend reads ONE HALFPENNY TOKEN around the upper arc, completing the denomination statement. Raised dot stops punctuate the legend at intervals. The design is enclosed by a beaded inner border and a plain raised rim, consistent with the obverse treatment and typical of the utilitarian aesthetic of New Zealand provincial trade tokens of the 1857 period.
