Reverse description Central shield of arms of the Borough of Lancaster, blazoned gules, a lion passant guardant or, on a chief azure a fleur-de-lys or, with the dividing line of the shield falling between the letters C and A of LANCASTER. The shield is surrounded by a peripheral legend and framed within a toothed border. The date 1791 appears below the shield in the exergual area. The legend reads LANCASTER HALFPENNY 1791, rendered in clean Roman capitals consistent with Hancock's engraving style for provincial trade tokens.
