Obverse description Glasgow civic coat of arms displayed centrally in the field: a tree in full leaf serving as the central device, with a bird perched upon its upper branches, a bell suspended from one of its boughs, and a salmon ascending the trunk. The heraldic composition is rendered in relief against a plain field, with the circular legend LET GLASGOW FLOURISH appearing along the periphery.

Reverse description A classically rendered recumbent river god occupies the central field, reclining in contrapposto pose and leaning upon an overturned pitcher from which water flows, personifying the River Clyde at its source. The figure is depicted in the Greco-Roman allegorical tradition consistent with late 18th-century token design. The Latin legend NUNQUAM ARESCERE encircles the upper periphery, and the date expressed in Roman numerals MDCCXCI appears in the exergue below.
