| Obverse description | Central field depicts three tall hop bines laden with hop cones, shown growing upward from a horizontal pole or rail, with a hop-picker seated at lower right harvesting the crop. The agricultural scene is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads MAY HOPS FOR EVER FLOURISH, separated by a decorative floral ornament at the base. The composition celebrates the hop-growing trade of the Kentish and Sussex weald, rendered in robust relief characteristic of late 18th-century provincial token engraving. |
