Obverse description Uniformed bust of Admiral Earl Howe in profile facing left, wearing a tricorn hat, his queue (pigtail) positioned so as to point between the letters U and J in the legend. The portrait is rendered in relief with fine detail to the uniform and facial features. The circumferential legend reads EARL HOWE. THE GLORIOUS FIRST OF JUNE., commemorating Howe's celebrated naval victory of 1 June 1794. This obverse die is shared with DH#15, distinguished by the ampersand being positioned further from the letters E and T.
