| Reverse description | The reverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line dedicatory inscription in raised lettering, reading TO THE ILLUSTRIOUS DUKE OF BEAUFORT THE FRIEND OF MANKIND & HIS WORTHY TENANTS WHO REDUCED THE PRICE OF THEIR WHEAT TO 9S PR BUSHEL A.D. 1795. A heraldic grid or portcullis device, likely a stylised representation of the Beaufort arms, appears above the inscription at the top of the field. The inscription is framed on both sides by an elegant wreath of oak and laurel branches, which cross at the base, all within a dentillated border. |
