| Reverse description | Central device features the simplified coat of arms of Jamaica without supporters: a quartered shield bearing five pineapples arranged across the four quarters, surmounted by a crocodile passant upon a log atop a royal helmet. A scroll beneath the shield carries the motto 'INDUS UTERQUE SERVIET UNI'. The denomination 'HALF PENNY' is inscribed along the lower arc, 'JAMAICA' along the upper arc, and the date flanks the shield on either side, all within a milled border. |

| Additional information |
Jamaica's half penny survived into the Elizabeth II era largely because of the persistence of very small retail transactions in the rural parish economy — vendors of ground provisions and market higglers still made change at fractions of a penny well into the 1950s. The Colonial Office had considered demonetising the denomination as early as 1950 but deferred to local commercial interests. Independence in 1962 effectively settled the matter, and the series was discontinued the following year.
