Obverse description Facing crowned effigy of Edward I rendered in the schematic style characteristic of late 13th-century English hammered coinage, centrally positioned within a beaded inner circle. The king's face is depicted frontally with a simple crown, the features bold and stylised. A continuous Latin legend in uncial lettering encircles the design between the inner beaded circle and the irregular coin edge, reading the royal titles of Edward as King of England and Lord of Ireland.
