| Obverse description | Draped bust of a Roman emperor facing right, rendered in the classical style typical of evasion halfpenny tokens of the late 18th century. The portrait is loosely based on a laureate Roman imperial effigy, with drapery visible at the truncation. The encircling legend CLAUDIUS ROMANUS appears around the periphery. The overall design deliberately evades the legal restrictions on imitating genuine British regal coinage by substituting a pseudo-Roman inscription in place of the monarch's name. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features a standing or seated Britannia-like female figure in the central field, consistent with the conventional evasion token design that mimics the Britannia motif of contemporary British halfpennies. The patriotic legend MAY BRITONS RULE encircles the figure, with the date 1779 appearing in the lower portion of the design. The rendering is typical of the crude but intentionally evasive workmanship characteristic of privately struck copper tokens of this period. |
