Obverse description Central alpha (A) device displayed within a plain inner circle, rendered in a bold angular style characteristic of late Anglo-Saxon hammered coinage. The alpha symbol is flanked by two downward-pointing triangular elements, evoking a stylized ecclesiastical motif. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the legend distributed around the circumference between the inner and outer beaded borders. The overall composition is typical of the anonymous St. Edmund Memorial penny series struck in East Anglia.
