Obverse description Bracteate type struck on a thin, irregularly shaped flan. The central device depicts an archbishop's crosier rendered as a tightly wound spiral, the volute coiling inward to a central point, with the staff descending vertically at left. The entire motif is enclosed within a plain raised ring border. The design is executed in a bold, stylised manner characteristic of mid-twelfth-century Norwegian ecclesiastical coinage.
