Reverse description The Portuguese royal arms displayed on an elaborately ornate shield of oval form, featuring the five quinas arranged in cross pattern and the bordure of castles, all surmounted by a royal crown with cross finial. The shield is framed by an exuberant Baroque cartouche of scrolling acanthus foliage, floral swags, and rocaille ornament that fills the entire field. No legend appears on the reverse, the design occupying the full flan.
