Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an eagle facing left, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent grasped in its beak and right talon. The eagle's wings are spread upward in a heraldic display, rendered in fine detail. The cactus is flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right, tied at the base. The circular legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, bordered by a closely spaced dentilated rim.
