Obverse description Standing full-length effigy of the King of the Romans depicted facing on a ship (the so-called 'schuitken' or small boat type), a sword raised over his right shoulder and the globus cruciger held in his left hand. The shield of Philip the Handsome is displayed prominently before him on the ship's hull. The design is executed in the late Gothic style characteristic of Burgundian Netherlandish coinage of the period. The surrounding legend in Latin identifies the issuing authority and titles of the ruler.
