| Reverse description | The reverse features a highly detailed depiction of a traditional Algerian Hanukkah lamp (hanukiah) of Moorish architectural style, rendered in relief at the centre of the field. The lamp is ornately decorated with intricate lattice and arch motifs, surmounted by a crescent and star finial, characteristic of North African Jewish metalwork from the 19th century. A Hebrew inscription along the left field identifies the origin and period of the lamp. The legend 'חנוכיה מאלג`יר' (Hanukkah lamp from Algeria) appears at the lower portion of the field, with the dating 'המאה הי`ט' (19th century) completing the identification. |
