Additional information

Guernsey's 1971 decimal issues, including this half penny, were released on Decimal Day — 15 February 1971 — the date Britain and its dependent territories simultaneously abandoned the centuries-old £sd system. Guernsey, while issuing its own coinage, was obligated to align with the UK's decimalisation timetable. The half penny denomination would survive less than a decade in British and Guernsey circulation before rising production costs made the coin economically indefensible.
