Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in flowing nasta'liq script, reading 'Ya Karim' (an invocation to the Merciful) above the mint name 'Dar al-'Ilm Shiraz' (City of Knowledge, Shiraz). The AH date 1187 appears prominently in the lower portion of the field. The legends fill the entire coin face in the characteristic dense, intertwining calligraphic style of Zand-period gold coinage, with no figurative imagery.
