Obverse description A stylized lion passant to the left occupies the central field, rendered in the traditional Persianate manner with a rayed solar disc rising above its back. The name 'Ahmad' appears in Arabic script inscribed across the lion's body. The surrounding field and border are filled with flowing Arabic calligraphic legends. The overall style is characteristic of early Durrani hammered gold coinage, with an irregular flan and bold, deeply struck relief.
