Reverse description The reverse bears a multi-line Arabic script inscription filling the entire field, divided by a horizontal ruled line into two registers. The upper register reads the name of the English Company and the Hijri year 1230, while the lower register states that the coin was struck on the Island of Java. The bold, deeply struck Arabic lettering is characteristic of the East India Company coinage produced for Java during the brief British interregnum under Raffles.
