Obverse description The field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Shi'a Kalimah inscription executed in bold thuluth script, reading 'There is no deity but Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, Ali is the Guardian of Allah.' The central legend is framed by the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'a Islam arranged in a circular border legend encircling the field. The deeply hammered lettering displays the characteristic interlocking strokes of Safavid epigraphic art, with no figurative elements present. The flan is irregularly shaped, typical of hand-struck Safavid gold issues of this period.
