Reverse description The reverse is covered entirely by a multi-line Shi'a Kalima legend inscribed in bold thuluth script across the irregular flan, with no imagery or border ornament. The field presents the Islamic declaration of faith followed by the Shi'a affirmation of Ali's authority as the Friend of God, the inscription being arranged in sweeping horizontal and diagonal registers characteristic of Safavid gold coinage. The names of the Twelve Imams are incorporated into the surrounding or supplementary lines, affirming the Twelver Shi'a identity of the Safavid state. The deeply cut calligraphy, rendered in high relief, fills the flan to its limits in the typical hammered style of the period.
