The Arabic inscription ياركند (Yarkand) appears to the right, while the Manchu legend ᠶᡝᡵᡴ᠌ᡳᠶᠠᠩ (Yerkiyang) appears to the left, identifying the issuing mint. The numeral 五 (Wu, meaning 'five') appears above, completing the denomination reading of 'Five Fen.' The execution is boldly struck in a primitive hammered style with pronounced raised lettering against a flat, lightly granular field. |
