Obverse description Four Chinese characters arranged in a cruciform pattern reading top to bottom, right to left, surrounding a central square void. The characters in the field read 光緒銀錢 (Guāngxù Yínqián), denoting 'Guangxu Silver Coin' in reference to the Guangxu Emperor's reign. The calligraphic style is characteristic of hand-engraved provincial Xinjiang coinage of the late Qing dynasty. No border or decorative elements are present, consistent with the crude, locally produced nature of these hammered issues.
