Reverse description The reverse features three horizontal bands of green-stamped decoration on the natural wood surface, forming a striped field design reminiscent of a stylized flag or tiled pattern. The central band bears the island name 'GAFERUT' inscribed in Latin capitals within a rectangular cartouche, flanked on both sides by square decorative tile motifs. The upper and lower bands consist of a series of similarly styled square stamp impressions in teal ink.

Additional information

The Federated States of Micronesia issued a series of wooden coins in the mid-2000s under a broad program of novelty legal tender, the gaferut being among the more obscure denominations. Gaferut is an uninhabited coral atoll in Chuuk State — no permanent population, no infrastructure, no economic activity of any kind. The denomination is effectively fictional in practical terms.
