Obverse description The Imperial German eagle (Type 2) displayed in high relief at centre, facing forward with wings spread, surmounted by an Imperial crown. The eagle bears a small escutcheon on its breast depicting the Hohenzollern arms. The eagle is flanked on either side by a branch of oak leaves, the two branches meeting at the base of the design. The mint mark 'A' (Berlin Mint) appears in the lower field beneath the eagle's tail. No peripheral legend is present on this face.

Reverse description At centre, the denomination '1/2' above 'MARK' in large bold Roman lettering, all within an open wreath of oak branches tied at the base with a ribbon bow. The arc legend 'DEUTSCHES REICH' curves along the upper periphery. The date '1900' appears in the lower exergual area beneath the wreath, separated from the legend by the wreath extremities. The field shows a smooth, slightly lustrous surface with natural toning consistent with a pattern striking.
