Obverse description Crowned and armored bust of King Karl IX facing left, wearing a jewelled crown and plate armour with chainmail visible at the shoulder. The portrait is rendered in a bold, slightly crude hammered style characteristic of early Swedish coinage. The Tetragrammaton in Hebrew characters (יהוה) appears at the top of the field, above the crown, as a divine invocation. The circumferential legend reads CAROLVS·IX·D:G·SVEC·GOT·VAN·&C·REX, separated by pellets, running within a beaded inner border.
