Anthony Günther ruled Oldenburg from 1603 until his death in 1667, and the long date range on this type reflects sustained small-denomination production rather than a single minting event. He was the last Count of Oldenburg of his line, dying without legitimate heirs and leaving the county to revert to Denmark — a dynastic end that makes his coinage the terminal issue of an independent Oldenburger comital series.
