| Obverse description | Crown displayed prominently in the upper field above the bold Latin inscription MEA, denoting the half denomination, struck in large raised letters occupying the lower two-thirds of the flan. A small pellet or mint mark appears beneath the crown. The beaded border encircles the entire design, characteristic of hammered Portuguese colonial gold coinage of the early sixteenth century. The lettering and crown are in high relief against a flat field, with the irregular flan typical of hand-struck issues from the Goa mint. |
