Obverse description The obverse displays the original legends of the host coin, a 1/4 Macuta struck under the joint regency of Maria I and Pedro III (KM#27, dated 1785). The circular legend reads MARIA·I·E·PETRUS·III·D·G·REGENTES··P·E·D·GUINEÆ·, running along the coin's periphery in Latin script. The field retains the design elements of the original host coin beneath the applied countermark. The overall surface shows the characteristic wear and flattening typical of a countermarked circulation piece.
