Additional information

Portugal's copper coinage for Angola in the 1780s was struck in Lisbon and shipped south — a logistical arrangement that created chronic shortages whenever Atlantic crossings were delayed or cargoes lost. The joint reign attribution to Maria I and Pedro III is chronologically tight: Pedro died in 1786, making the two-year window on this type unusually short for a colonial issue of this weight class.
