| Obverse description | Two standing figures face one another: at left, St. Mark the Evangelist, nimbed and robed, extends the banner of Venice toward the Doge; at right, Doge Nicolò Marcello, shown in ducal robes and corno ducale, receives the standard in a gesture of investiture. A vertical staff separates the two figures. The surrounding legend, reading NI` MARCELL` • S • M • VENETI, is distributed around the coin field in the characteristic Venetian hammered style. |
