Obverse description A fully armored knight in profile faces right, depicted from the waist upward, wearing a plumed helmet and holding a drawn sword raised over the right shoulder; the figure is positioned above a crowned shield bearing the rampant lion of Overijssel. The provincial arms are flanked by decorative supporters. The encircling Latin legend reads MO ARG PRO CON FOE BELG TRAN, denoting the silver coinage of the United Belgian Provinces of Overijssel. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and bold relief typical of Dutch hammered silver coinage of the early seventeenth century.
