Reverse description Within a beaded border, an armillary sphere is depicted centrally, rendered as a globe with intersecting meridian and equatorial bands. A prominent diagonal band crosses the sphere from upper left to lower right, representing the ecliptic or armillary band. The device is a well-known heraldic emblem of the Portuguese Crown and appears frequently on the coinage of Portuguese India during the reign of João III.
