| Obverse description | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Wilhelm I of Prussia, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and a prominent beard with moustache. The portrait is of a mature, dignified character in the neoclassical tradition. The surrounding legend reads WILHELM KOENIG VON PREUSSEN, disposed along the upper periphery within a beaded border. The mint mark 'A' (Berlin) appears in small letters at the base of the portrait below the neck truncation. |

Prussia struck this denomination in gold only briefly, as the half krone occupied an awkward position in the emerging German monetary framework. The parallel push toward a unified North German coinage system — which would culminate in the North German Confederation's monetary agreement of 1868 — rendered small gold fractions like this increasingly redundant. Production was abandoned before unification made the question moot entirely.
