Additional information

Maria Theresa's hold on Bohemia in 1742 was anything but secure. Frederick II had invaded Silesia the previous year, and French and Bavarian forces occupied Prague itself from late 1741 into early 1742. That the Prague mint produced coinage at all during this period reflects the administrative scramble to assert Habsburg control as imperial forces fought to retake the city — which they did in December 1741, just months before this piece was struck.

Small billon fractions like this were the workhorses of everyday Bohemian commerce, and the Prague mint's output in 1742 was deliberately practical rather than ceremonial.
