| Obverse description | Crowned shield of Hesse bearing a lion rampant to the left, set within a plain field. The crowned arms are rendered in a simple, somewhat crude style typical of small copper coinage of the early nineteenth century. The circular legend reads G. HESS.-SCHEID., abbreviated for Gross-Hessen-Scheidemünze, distributed around the periphery of the coin. |
