| Reverse description | Central device consists of a floriated or ornamented cross with decorative terminals, occupying the majority of the flan. Small pellets or ornamental elements appear in the angles of the cross. The surrounding field is plain, and the coin's irregular hammered flan lends an organic outline to the piece. A Latin legend in beaded or dotted borders encircles the cross, referencing the Biblical verse on divine providence. The reverse composition is characteristic of the devotional iconographic tradition found on small billon denominations of the Swiss and Burgundian regions in the early seventeenth century. |
