| Obverse description | Three heraldic shields arranged in a trefoil or clover-leaf pattern, with the central upper shield bearing a pale or pairle device, the lower-left shield bearing an oak branch, and the lower-right shield bearing a pattern of chevrons or bars. The date is divided across the upper field, flanking the top shield, reading '16' to the left and '83' (or the relevant year) to the right. A small fraction numeral '½' appears at the base of the composition. The entire design is contained within a plain inner border with a beaded outer rim. |
