Obverse description The cantonal arms of St. Gallen — a shield charged with a harp — occupy the central field, flanked on either side by foliate branches rendered in low relief. The circular legend CANTON ST. GALLEN runs along the upper periphery, with the design elements filling the coin's field in a simple, functional neoclassical style consistent with early nineteenth-century Swiss cantonal coinage.

Reverse description The denomination is presented in three horizontal tiers at the centre of the field: the fraction 1/2 at the top, the word KREUZER in bold roman capitals across the middle separated by a horizontal rule, and the four-digit date below. The mint-master's initial K appears beneath the date in the lower field, serving as the sole attribution mark on an otherwise plain, unadorned reverse.
