Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate interlaced Cyrillic monogram of Emperor Nicholas I (Н I), rendered in an ornate cursive script with sweeping flourishes. The Roman numeral I appears below the monogram, denoting the ordinal of the emperor's name. Surmounting the monogram is a detailed Imperial Russian crown with cross finial. The entire design is contained within a raised rim bordered by a prominent row of raised beads, giving the obverse a clean, authoritative appearance characteristic of the Nikolaevian monetary reform coinage.
