Obverse description Within a beaded inner circle on a square klippe flan, the full-length frontal figure of Saint Rupert (Sanctus Rudbertus), patron saint of Salzburg, is depicted wearing pontifical vestments including a mitre and cope, with a nimbus encircling his head. He holds a crozier in his left hand and raises his right hand in benediction. Below the saint, a large quartered ecclesiastical shield of arms displays the heraldic emblems of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, flanked by decorative scrollwork. The circumferential Latin legend SANCTVS RVDERTVS EPS SALISBVRG runs along the beaded border, identifying the saint and the see.

Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle on the square klippe flan, a multi-tiered fortified tower or keep is depicted rising from turbulent waves, symbolizing steadfast faith amid adversity. Rays of divine light or sunbeams emanate from above, descending upon the tower from clouds in the upper field, reinforcing the devotional motto. A decorative wreath or scrolled border frames the central device. The circumferential Latin legend IN DNO SPERANS NON INFIRMABOR encircles the design, translating as 'Trusting in the Lord I shall not be weakened,' serving as the personal motto of Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau.
