Chikka Devaraja Wodeyar's reign marked the period when Mysore genuinely broke free of Vijayanagara's diminished political shadow and began functioning as an independent regional power, expanding aggressively against its neighbors including Coorg and the Nayakas of Keladi. The copper kasu was the workhorse denomination of local bazaar commerce throughout the Deccan and southern India during this period — small enough to handle daily grain transactions, issued in volume, and rarely preserved with care.
KM#164 is among the more frequently misattributed issues in Mysore series, given the overlapping regal periods and inconsistent die workmanship across this reign's copper output.
